United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. The UNICEF Campus Initiative at the University of Michigan plays a powerful role in this mission. As one of the 600 active Campus Initiative Clubs around the country, members of UNICEF at Michigan strive to educate, advocate, and fundraise on behalf of UNICEF, in order to reach zero preventable deaths. Our members come from all across the university and with a host of diverse experiences. Yet, we unite under the same passion: children’s rights. We believe in protecting children and advancing innovative campaigns and mobilization initiatives to help others recognize the power of their voices. Everyone can make an impact.
2024 End of Year Gala
UNICEF at the Univeristy of Michigan's End of Year Gala gala seeks to celebrate the work of its incredible members and send off our seniors. Through the event's speakers and collective advocacy component, we hope to inspire our university community to take action to protect children.
We are pleased to welcome special guest Austin Cathey, MPH.
Austin Cathey, MPH, is a Community Engagement Associate at UNICEF USA focusing on the Midwestern United States. In 2023, Austin received his Master of Public Health in Global Health Policy and Equity from Loyola University Chicago. Shortly after graduation, Austin joined UNICEF USA. Since joining, Austin has made an incredible impact on the students he’s worked with and has helped amplify youth voices across the country. Austin has an extensive background in global health advocacy, research, and community engagement work. He is passionate about protecting and advocating for children's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and women/maternal rights. Austin received his Bachelor from the Univeristy of Missouri-Columbia in Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences.
