We are so excited to promote three passion projects in one with this event! As you maybe already have noticed, we love to run and host running events. If you know one of us on a personal level, you know that we are infatuated with and the cultural phenomena of Ugly Sweaters . We are also very committed to charity. That is why we are so excited to announce a partnership with UNICEF for this event! Every race entry will send $10 directly to UNICEF!
This is a virtual 5k. There is no time limit. There is no official course to complete. You go 3.1 miles wherever you are at anytime from the time you register right up until midnight on 12/31/2020 and you are a finisher! That could be on a treadmill, a elliptical, or running circles around your bedroom. If you choose to run outside - please distance, wear a mask, and for heaven's sake wear the ugliest sweater you can find.
You self report your time and we ship you the swag.
**We will very likely hold an in-person 5k in Patapsco State Park on a weekend in the second half of December. We are currently looking at dates and the COVID situation. No promises, but if it is possible, we will do it!**
Every runner will get a Brooks long sleeve technical running shirt with our amazing logo. The logo was designed by our great friend, Erin Ellis. Check out her website erinellis.com . Take a close look at the logo and you will see that every x has been hand drawn to give the appearance of a hand made cross stitch sweater. Every finisher will get a medal that doubles as a xmas tree ornament.
(Brooks has a limited supply of shirts, so depending on the popularity of this, we may have to substitute another brand. It will still be a long sleeve and similar quality.)
We would be so happy to see pics of you all running in an ugly sweater. Please post to white oak running company socials (facebook and insta). We will run contests for ugliest sweater, best photo, etc and have prizes. The uglier the better, but please wear an undershirt! Don't suffer chafe for us. Bonus Points for socially distanced and masked photos!
UNICEF is committed to caring for children around the world. This is a cause that is close to our hearts. The money we send them will do good and not go to pay big corporate salaries. Together, we are working toward the day when no children die from preventable causes and every child has a safe and healthy childhood.
We see a lot of runs for a lot cheaper than ours. We believe that you get what you pay for. We work with good people that are doing good work. We use Brooks shirts because they are truly invested in the running community - especially trail running. We buy the shirts through our local running store (shop local - if in Baltimore Charm City Running have been like family since we started). We use a printer that is right around the corner. Our designs are done by hand by a close friend. The medals are from a great company that does amazing work. When we say that a portion of your registration goes to charity, we mean it. $10 will be donated. We will publish total donations on our socials as the registration goes on. We promise that we will always try to make things better and use companies that have similar standards.
