Seattle Introduction to UNICEF USA and NextGen

October 24th, 2017 @ 5:00pm PST

About this Event

In support of UNICEF, join HMA for an event to bring the Seattle community together to learn about UNICEF's mission to improve the health and wellbeing of all children and how each of us can help them in achieving their lifesaving work at home and abroad.

UNICEF Next Generation (NextGen) is a group of young leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators who commit their resources, resolve and enthusiasm toward supporting UNICEF programs worldwide. NextGen members study issues affecting children around the world and choose UNICEF projects to support through education, advocacy and fundraising.  Currently, NextGen communities are concentrated in NYC, LA, ATL, CHI, and most recently the Bay Area. Let's get NextGen Seattle off the ground and engage our networks in an effort to put #childrenfirst.

MORE INFORMATION ON WORLD POLIO DAY
World Polio Day was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis. In 2016, the world saw just 37 cases of polio in three countries – the lowest case count in history. With just eleven cases in the first half of 2017, we have seen another record low.

World Polio Day (October 24th) provides an opportunity to highlight progress, maintain critical momentum and celebrate the contributions of the many people working to make eradication possible, including health workers, partners and donors.  Rotary International will be co-hosting this year’s World Polio Day event with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The event will stream live from Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle, Washington to bring together more than 50,000 viewers around the world. Tune in at endpolio.org and join us at Cambia Grove to experience the UNICEF Virtual Reality experience about polio and to learn more about how you can get involved.
