NextGen Chicago Presents: A Conversation on Public Health and the COVID-19 Response
About this Event

NextGen Chicago is hosting a conversation on Public Health and the COVID-19 response. Join us and our public health expert panelists as they tackle your questions related to the U.S. healthcare system and the COVID-19 response with a particular focus on how it has impacted communities of color.

The global pandemic has brought attention to structural inequalities that are present in the U.S. healthcare system. In Chicago, COVID-19 is impacting communities of color at disproportionately high rates. Research shows that Black and Latinx communities have higher rates of obesity, diabetes, and asthma, which can make them more susceptible to contracting the virus. The higher rates of these conditions are not only connected to inequities in health care, but they’re also the result of disparate economic and social conditions that are more common among some racial and ethnic minorities.
