Join UNICEF Next Generation, Accenture, and MATTER for a thought-provoking conversation surrounding how digital innovations are improving local and global challenges in regards to health, nutrition, immunizations, communication, and education. Our panel includes experts in the non-profit, health care, public health, and startup communities who have experience in using digital innovations to create sustainable solutions that are impacting the lives of many.

Featured Speakers:

Marc Warren, Strategy Manager of Health and Public Service Practice at Accenture. 

Marc is an executive based out of Chicago with seven years of experience focused on growth strategy, strategic planning, new business opportunity identification and experience led service design. He has worked with multiple healthcare organizations including non-governmental organizations, providers, payers, pharmaceuticals, medical technology companies, venture capital firms, and integrated delivery networks. Marc co-founded Accenture’s Healthcare 2020 group, which identifies emerging trends by analyzing venture funding received by healthcare startups. Marc has authored various published thought leadership articles, including “Corporate venture capital is healthcare's lifeline”, “Healthcare IT start-up funding fueling digital disruption”, “Zombie start-ups and vulture capital” and “Why hospitals must revive their digital health strategies”. 

Mark Fisher, Founder of Mission Product Development LLC. 

Mark Fisher is the founder of Mission Product Development LLC, which provides start-ups and non-profits with innovative medical device product development services for both the developed and developing world. Fisher is also a Clinical Associate Professor within Northwestern's Biomedical Engineering program and works with Northwestern's Center for Innovation in Global Health Technologies (CIGHT). In addition, he is an Innovation Mentor at Matter. He has more than 30+ years of product and service development experience, deep experience in industry, start-ups and consulting, broad experience across health care, consumer, industrial and aerospace products, proven leadership experience from leading large teams, managing groups of product developers to creating new business, and also has over 25 patents issued and/or pending.

Dr. Steven Schuetz, General Surgery Resident and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northwestern Medicine. 

Dr. Steven Schuetz is a general surgery resident and postdoctoral research fellow in cancer prevention and control at Northwestern Medicine. He has spent over 3 years working in Bolivia as part of Northwestern's Global Health Initiative with a focus on sustainable health system strengthening. His current work involves the national implementation of a tablet-based technology, called PROMIS, throughout Bolivia. PROMIS uses computer adaptive testing to rapidly evaluate a patient's symptoms, function and well-being across physical, mental and social health domains, promoting individualized and comprehensive care. He is partnering with national hospitals and universities to develop a flexible implementation process that will facilitate PROMIS implementation in other countries throughout Latin America.

Ryan Jeffery, Founder & Co-CEO of Ignite.

Ryan is the Founder & Co-CEO of Ignite, which empowers companies to build a diverse and thriving culture by connecting their employees to the global community. They do this through journeys to destinations around the world that combine cultural immersion, community engagement and personal/professional development. These experiences expose people to global challenges surrounding health, education and environment while providing a natural connection to long-term support through technology and digital innovation. Previous to this, Ryan was a Co-Founder & Partner at Roniin, a company that advances the world by bringing ideas to life and was an early founder of Belly, the world’s leading loyalty platform for retail businesses. Ryan received his degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and is currently an advisor for several companies in Chicago and San Francisco.

Kidus Fisaha Asfaw, Patnerships Lead, UNICEF Innovation.

Kidus Fisaha Asfaw has joined the UNICEF Innovation team as the Partnerships Lead based in New York. Kidus’ first job with UNICEF was with the (then) Global Innovations Centre – based in Kampala, Uganda -  where he managed the launch and expansion of RapidPro. Before coming back “home” to the Office of Innovation, Kidus worked with the Field Results Group as the product manager for eTools (etools.unicefresults.org) – UNICEF’s platform for managing country program results. With 30+ country, regional, and HQ office visits under his belt in his 3-year UNICEF tenure, Kidus has had the rare opportunity to receive a holistic exposure to UNICEF’s inner-workings, and is super excited to apply this in his new role. Before joining UNICEF, Kidus was an Innovation Specialist at the World Bank where he helped formulate strategies for utilizing innovative technologies in the Bank’s Uganda and Ethiopia country portfolios. He has also worked for Accenture in Washington, D.C. and for Google in Silicon Valley.

Ben Hewitt, UNICEF Next Generation Chicago Steering Committee Member. 

Ben Hewitt sits on UNICEF Next Generation Chicago's Steering Committee where he works to advocate and fundraise for the world's children. Ben has worked in Nairobi, Kenya with both an orphanage and an HIV Positive women’s center where he developed a passion for international aid. He is currently ​Partner and Head of Sales at Hunt Club and Operating Partner at New Coast Ventures.
