Building on several trends in the United States today, UNICEF’s Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) seeks to engage local governments in advancing children’s well-being and rights locally. Hosted by UNICEF USA, UNICEF Canada, the Partnership for Child Health, the Kid's Health Alliance, and the Center for Children's Rights, the CFCI expert group meeting (EGM) aims to build a learning community to assist in the development of CFCI in North America, together with local government representatives and staff, childhood policy and child rights experts and UNICEF.
The two-day meeting will feature speakers from UNICEF HQ as well as leading experts on child rights and participation. Participants can expect to leave the EGM not only with a comprehensive understanding of the CFCI framework, but also tangible action steps for integrating a child rights-based approach into their work within their local communities.
